$2,504.12 and counting...

Lemma tell ya. When I was in HS band, the girls playing second clarinet were a lot more fun than the first chair. The first chair was always practicing and worried if she missed a note here and there. The second chair cared about music sure, but just liked being in the band and wanted to do something else too when the concert ended.
That's kind of the way I see it here. Sure, you can BUY all the stuff you need to blow a six away. So what. I love being in the band and some of these guys are making real music with their dapped out sixes.

great thread. "Second chair girls have more fun!" I might have read that on a bumper sticker somewhere.

I'm at $15,000 and counting; still need interior and I didn't even rebuild the engine. Ouch!

To be very honest, I hear so many V8s getting better mpg than me and costing much, much less to build with way more hp. Practicality says an 8 is the way to go. To have a 6 means to have different goals. Once you make that choice, forget the receipts.

You gotta find the ones that are so crappy that they will do anything for attention

I was talking about my high school band, not yours. Some of our second chairs got to All State. It was just an analogy. Or are you like Woody Allen: Who'd want to be in a club that would let ME in?

Doh!! I got it. Like the guy that only took out the second ugliest girls at the frat parties. "How come the second ugliest?" his friend asked. "Hey, I got some taste."

I put all my receipts for any and all money spent on my ranchero in a
shoe box, that I keep in the floor of my closet. I have never and will
never add them up. I don't know why I keep them, I just do. I have
spent money (lots of it) to increase performance, most of the money
did increase power, but some of the money I spent made the ranchero
go slower. The way I look at it is, it is 'my entertainment' and I will
continue to 'entertain myself'. Paul.

heh mines not running either... motor is tanning Florida style in the freshly painted and clear coated engine compartment, motors all painted up, some new chrome and aluminum, will hopefully bolt it back up tomorrow morning so I can get to work on the J pipe and manifold, and maybe get all the ignition setup wired back together.

I guess it depends what you mean by "real" power.

A set of AFR's (1.5k) a forged rotating assembly (2k) roller cam, intake, and carb (1k) and another 200-800 on exhaust depending on chassis.

Bottom line is, this hobby isn't cheap. But we love it anyways.

that combo will pull 4-500 HP, I would consider " Real " power 1hp per cubic inch.

1hp/cube, no problem! We almost have Kelly's car up to 2hp/cube. Just a little more testing and we're there!

The total is about 53 500 NZ dollars for me since 1994.

1 700 in my 229 Xflow engine from 2000 to 2001
29 000 dollars on my 1984 Falcon from 1994 to 2003,
4 500 from 2001 to 2003 on my Turbo Ford Cortina 2.3.

13 000 Kiwi dollars on my business start-up, which included an Aussie 1980 Cortina, an Xflow 1978 Falcon 500 and an EFI 1987 Fairmont.

Then theres bucks for a host of junked engines and cars (Falcon utes, a Toyota for recovery vehicle for my son, so i can get towed if i break down).

When I've completed the test engines below, I'll have a bunch of faithfull, ancient, certifiable junkies which i can have a traffic jam session with.

I have no idea what I have spent on this turbo set-up, all I know is that the receipt folder is 6 INCHES THICK!

ps. and I don't want to know.

I quit keeping my repts shortly after my wife went threw the shoe box I kept them in... She told me I could never sell the car and make my money back.the Boss said so, So be it...:)

well, I sent the pistions to the machine shop, along with the old pistions/rods so they can be fitted to the rods. gonna cost around $200. it's gonna go togther pretty quick once I get the block back

recipts.. i didn't even bring them home...

i'd just get "the look".

2.5k's not bad. i had almost 7 into my capri when the body rusted out so fast on me that I just had to get rid of it, and found out after taking the engine out and letting it sit that the body was twisted like a pretzel.

final build cost will be in the ballpark of $3k, I just have to buy 3 gauges ( boost, oil press and oil temp ), some exhaust tubing, wastegate, blow off valve and some turbo couplars, and an alternator. also valve springs/ locks still need to be got.

I have to redo my website, so it can have an engine build section.
