2 BBL Carb Direct Mount

Hello all.
When mounting a 2BBL carb directly to the log head, is it a good idea to grind down the "ridges" inside the log....

I thought that these "ridges" helped maintaing the mixture from separating???? Any thoughts???

I believe they are there for a couple of reasons...

The ridges allow more surface area, so they transfer more heat to the mixture, and they induce further turbulence to maintain an even mixture distribution. Heat in the manifold? I can see this as a way of maintaining something more like "steady state" induction conditions.

Beautifull, MandarinaRacing, that's just the picture I need for Overdose, a dude who's wacking a 350 Holley on his Falcon. The adaptor is similar to mine, and secured the same way.

You're doing well, my friend. That D7DE 8080 casting looks excellent compared to my old C1 head on my spare 200 engine. There is so much port and intake area. And no gasket leaks with a log. Ford were certainly onto something...

I´ve seen this ´couple of times on VW inliners, they called the ribbing a "heating hedgehog" (yup, you heard right); its primarily use was to keep the mixture from icing which might happen at very low temperatures.

When did Ford invent the heated carb spacer on the inline engines?... dunno...

It sure induces further turbulence to the incoming charge , but I´m not sure if that was Ford engineer´s main intention. Probably yes.

Those ridges help vaporize the incoming charge. On the underside is the # 3 & 4 exhaust ports which heat the bottom of the intake log.

The carb heater is there to prevent carb icing. On cool days when the humidity is high, the low pressure area of the venturi can get cold enough to cause frost and ice. It freezes and causes the carb to quit.

XE actually that's one of the Scheledjal Bros. intake set up, I just borrowed it to illustrate. But hopefully mine will look very similar. Anyway, I guess I'll try to remove those ridges, the last thing I want is heat in there. I'm also planning to do some mods that hopefully help in cooling the log....home made fuel cool can, aluminum shields, ceramic paint and some of that Thermo Tec shield tape. I just got a lot of goodies brought down from the US. I'm installing my DII this week. I'll keep you guys posted.

Some thing like that...I ordered from Summit and had it shipped to my cousin's house in PA, but she she did get to go with my cousin to a Checkers store.... I finally got the cap adapter I was missing.
Gotta love her !!!!!!
