Hi All: New to this site. Have a 66 inline in my 65 base Mustang hardtop. Ride was a CA black plate until I obtained it in 2010. I believe the inline was a rebuilt version dating from sometime in the 70's. Has a Holley 1940 carb, and hydraulic lifters. Motor has been essentially stock. However while out cruising a week or so ago I heard a popping/banging noise, and immediately lost power. Was able to limp home. Motor starts but compression test shows following;
Cylinder
1. 85
2 through 5. 60
6. 55
Think I am looking at a rebuild. All input will be appreciated.

Its stuffed. rebuild time.

Well some bad luck that is for sure. Check your block and head casting numbers to find out what you have. You can still find a good used 200, it can take a bit of searching but can be a fast way to get back on the road. If your block is not rebuildable you would be looking anyway. I have a spare 250 in my garage just for that reason.

This is like the secret decoder ring to find out what you have:

Interesting it was CA black plate Mustang. Was it built in San Jose? Th CA vehicles usually don't have much rust.
