A non local friend of mine has a straight six engine he's not sure is it is a 200 or a 250? He's asked me to help him i.d. it.I can usually spot the differences, unfortunately photos of the engine are not an option at this point.Does anyone happen to know casting numbers? According to my friend it has D8BE-6015-JA .Cast into the side of the block I know D8 = 1978 and 6015 is Ford's basic engine number.Any help would be greatly appreciated .Thanks

Hi Camden289,

If there is still a water pump on the engine, here is an easy way to tell which one you have:

The water pump on a 200 has three bolts holding it on.
The water pump on a 250 has four bolts holding it on.

I hope this helps,

if it has a D8 casting number (1978 model) and a low mount starter (below the oil pan gasket) then it is a 250. if the start is above then it is a 200.

IIRC they didn't make a new casting for a 250 that late in the game but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the replies.I did some digging on the home page and found the casting number list under misc info. This part number was on the list under 250.So there's our answer. Thanks again
