It's fairly strong, but not 460 stroker fodder like the 300 I6 rod can be.
The rod bolts can take the heavy duty 289 bolts, and if its given a good check for straightness, then theres no reason it can't hack 400 hp at 7500 rpm on a 3.126" stroke, or 450 plus at 6000 rpm connected to a turboed 250 Aussie or US engine.
About 30% of each years Falcon production had 3.3 x-flow versions sold to Aussie power utility companies, Government departments, often in Falcon Utes. In New Zealand, it was more like 40 to 50% of all production from 1980 to 1988.
