221 and BW35 Info - Torque Convertor

Due to the short time (21 August) until Nostalgia Drags we have decided to put the BW35 back into the XP instead of the T5 (for now) and have run into a problem with the torque convertor. When the auto was taken out the fluid was drained out of the convertor and I'm unable to find out in any of the workshop manuals here how much auto oil is needed just in the convertor. Anyone know (even approximately) and is there a way to check if there is enough oil in it.

Fill 'er up! The volume of fluid is probably 80% of the volume of water displaced when you dunk the TC in a bucket or sink. Do this flywheel side down to keep the aqua out its guts.

How's that for rough 'n' ready?

6 or 7 litres their all pretty similar, You cant fill it before putting into car as it will run out anyway.

I am I right in assuming that 6 or 7 lts would be the total amount for the autobox and the torque convetor? If I fill the convertor up just enough so that it doesn't run out when placed on the vertical (when it is fitted up to the gearbox should that be ok (anymore and it would just run out until it reaches that point again)? Can you overfill the convetor (like an engine) and cause any damage?

I'll give the water trick a go in the morning and see how that amount compares.

I don't think there's supposed to be any air in with the ATF in your converter. At least, not when the motor's running.

Isn't there a procedure for filling the thing?
I seem to recall something about filling it as much as possible, filling the pan, running through the range of gears in idle, then top off while idling in park, repeat until full?
I dunno, been a long time since I gave any love to a slushbox...I've got a stack of 5-speeds waiting to be swapped into my various cars...

I think the whole system holds about 8.5 litres of ATF. I think the convertor accounts for about 2 litres of that.
