223 to 300 swap

I've just come across a '64 Ford Custom 2 dr sedan.It's a 223/3 on the tree.While a big block would make a great nostalgia racer,I think I would enjoy just driving this one.The car has not run in 25 years(been in a barn)and I have a good running 300/3spd in a '76 truck.How hard is it to put a 300 in the '64?I figured a 300 w/4bbl & good exhaust would run as well as(or better)than a stock 302/289 and be different to boot.Is it worth the trouble?Thanks

Well in my '58 Mercury truck, the Engine & Trans mounts had to be changed, had to put an Electrc Fan system in as there was no room for mounting the Original Fan on the Water Pump & in between the Radiator.

The Custom and Galaxie are based on the same platform aren't they?In 65' the 240 was an engine option for the Galaxie. If you could find one you could probably use the engine mounts etc.Or possibly modify some truck frame mounts to fit.The galaxie that I've seen in one of the local yards had all kinds of room.

I have a 300 in a 58 ranchero. had to remake the pan. moved the trans cross member back (useing aod) by welding 1/4 plate on frane rails. used late 70st (300) motor mounts. made a 1/4 in. plate about 4 by 8 in bolt it to the front frame mounts.
