Hi All,
Because I really needed to burn more money I've recently picked up a 1970s Skicraft ski boat running what I think is an XY Falcon 250 pushing a jet drive. I'm looking for some inspiration on what to do with it because the performance at the moment is, let's say... underwhelming.
I'd like to keep running the pre cross six in some fashion because all of the marine parts are suited to it and keeping it "somewhat" period appropriate as an oddball engine/driveline arrangement might be a bit of fun. I doubt I'll ever find a 2V head these days although I like the look of the triple carb conversions I've seen people do to the log.
My carb experience is pretty minimal, too young to have had anything worth playing with running a carb but I've stripped and rebuilt a few EFI engines to bare block and back, so I know my way around what makes things go well enough. I've pulled down and re-kitted the Stromberg that came with the boat.
Any recommendations on what I should do to wake the 250 up a bit? Is it worth doing a camshaft and bigger single carb without doing anything else, as a starting point as I work my way up to bigger and better things? Given it's a ski boat it's going to spend most of its time at higher RPMs and won't take long to get there, so I was thinking big cam could be a good start because I don't need to worry about low end or driveability in the same way as I would with a car.
Cheers!
