Im looking at buying an XL wagon, but was thinking of getting rid of the small 200 (i think thats what they have stock? maybe the 170?) and want to fit my 250 and 3speed manual (old motor and box from my XA)

Will the 250 bolt straight in using factory mounts or the 200 (or 170) different?

OR

To replace the original 2 speed auto, will my 3 speed bolt upto the stock motor using a 250 bell or they different too??
Anyone know the floor shift kit i can get for the 3 speed manual?

Speco do the 3 speed floorshift. It's expensive new so try the wreckers. Your 250 bellhousing won't fit a four main block; at present the best option is to swap in motor and box.

Use the forward two bolts on the 250 block, to attach XM/XP mount sets, and the matching parts for the body. Buy a used rear mount for the XA gearbox - probably a Hadfield one. Check whether steering draglink hits the sump on full lock.

Is the old motor completely stuffed?

the 250 i pulled out of the xa still ran fine, but was getting a little tired by blowing some blue smoke at higer revs.

Might just put the 250 and 3 speed in but........

What is the original auto like tho? only 2 speed correct? original motor is a???? 170 or 200?

the original motor needs a new dizzy, i have an electronic one from a xflow, can i use that? or, will the points dizzy from the 250 go in it ok?

also got a later model puel pump from an xflow too and an original glass top fuel pump still on the old 250.

The car is only as a daily driver and occasional towing of a box trailer.

The XL will have vacuum wipers run of the fuel pump if still original.
Change it to XM-XP electric wipers is the best.
Let us know how you get on.
