255ci pistons

I´ve been looking for 255ci V8 pistons for my tall deck 250.
found em on the kb-silvolite homepage, but thats where my luck ends.

So far, I only found one single source over here, and they´re asking 400 bucks for a set. Thats right, four hundred dollars for a set of stock cast replacement pistons. All the other parts dealers claim 255 stuff to be "unavailable" and try to convince me to cram a brand C 350ci between my shock towers... yeah, right. Not gonna happen.

So, does anybody know a source for 255 pistons made by a reputable manufacturer, at a reasonable price?

if the 255´s should turn out to be definitely unavailable in the US as well, can anybody hook me up with a set of tempo pistons? I can´t get those here as well... :(

Simon,
I recently posted an entry in the e-Bay section dealing with pistons.
I have been tracking some down and thought I'd share my 'map'.
I recently bought a set, well 7/8 of a set from a fellow on e-Bay.
The seller was j*s*s
Here is my 255 list I compiled.
Ford V8 255 CI
Hastings 5618
Badger P760 +.030 in stock(7) <--I got these
Silvolite 1176

Think I paid $60 USD for the seven.
Don't know if this helps or not.
Oh some other e-Bay contacts-

You might e-mail them.
Good luck with the search.

simon,
This is from my notes also:

Below are L4 OHC pistons “Sâ€￾ engine
Federal Mogul P#489P .30 84-94 L4 OHC 94-92 Tempo
3.679 “(94.447 mm) 1.5â€￾ CH .001 from top of block
5/64â€￾ Ring 1
3/16â€￾ Ring 2
Ring 3
Sealed Power 489P 9.0:1 CR 2-5/64â€￾ 1-3/16â€￾ rings

Hastings 5688 crossed to Silvolite
TRW 1178P crossed to Silvolite
Engine Tech P1541 crossed to Silvolite
Badger P763 crossed to Silvolite
Silvolite #1185 ß from Handbook<-- (Ford Six Bible!)

Problem is these come in fours.
However even then, two sets at $50 @ is a whole lot less than $400.
look at e-Bay item 7918137298(pist) and 7923722037(rings)
mpccentral is another possibility for 255 pistons.
Shipping would be terrible I assume.
If you want, e-mail me and I'll send you my 'piston sheet' as it is.
I'll be out of the office next week but will be back in July 11th.
I'll have a flash stick with me with the doc on it so should be able to repond sooner -maybe.

I ordered mine from AutoZone (Badger brand) about 4 years back for about $13 each.

I ordered mine from Carquest for 120.00 for the set of 6, and used moly rings from Mac's auto;. for 36.00

Northern Auto parts has them on Ebay for $74.99 a set. Just do a search for 255. You end up with two extra ones, but that's still cheap ($12.50 each, plus two "free" spares).

Something ain't right with that information. The HSC was OHV, and the "S" code engine (HSO) was only avaible like 85-91.

Anyways, S and X code engines were basically the same. The differences where in the heads and the cams. IIRC, Advance Auto used to carry Tempo pistons for $17.47 a piston for Sealed Power or $30.99 for clevite. The sealed power is also a 489P part number tho.

Just order 3 sets (24), keep your 6 and sell the remaining 3 sets (3 sets of 6) here.

I´m stuck in kraut country.

the only parts that can be oredered here without major hassle are generic chevy small block parts. Besides, shipping costs would be prohibitive, for both you and me.

thank you all for your input, though.

Now, I´m going to slap my dealers with the part numbers you provided.
If they still refuse to cooperate... well, then I will have to find someone who will buy some pistons for me at autozone...

Simon, it depends on what rods you choose to run. ACL list the following piston and ring sets:

With Aussie 200 rods 6MKRY9412 (8.6cc dish), and 6MKRY9413 (flat top)

With regular 250 rods 6MKRY9410 (flat top), 6MKRY4105 (15cc dish), 6MKRY4104 (22cc dish), 6MKRY4103 (27.9cc dish)...

These numbers are followed by a dash and the oversize in thou, eg "-030"

You can get file-fit moly ring options (suffix "H") but otherwise they come with the premium moly faced compression rings. The 9000 series are hypereutectic, the 4000s eutectic only.

Not sure on current prices but can easily check. Make it AUD$4500 and I'll throw in a '64 Fender Jazz Bass to sweeten the deal, huh? (Can't sell the darned thing for trying!)

Adam.

I´m afraid that´ll break the bank.

I´ve played with the UPS shipping cost calculator. Now I don´t need a horror movie to have nightmares...

Damn! Now that's a collectors item! How about a picture? I got a buddy with a '65 that's worth about $2500CDN.

Your looking for a set of pistions for a 255 Ford Vee-Eight?

I can look around at my local shops if you like shiping to Ausi from where I'm at isnt all that bad. Got an intake manifold delivered for a good price

Are there other pistions that would do the job for ya?

Good luck with the hunt either way

I bought a set of FORGED 200 (will work in 250, also)
pistons from j*s*s on ebay for $60 US

If you need help shipping, let me know, I ship stuff to Deutschland regularly.

Simon,
I ordered pistons from this user on e-Bay as well.
I think I referenced him earlier.
e-mail him with what you want, he might be able to assist you.
I get the feeling he's turned a wrench or two himself.
Look any of his auctions up and contact him via e-Bays e-mail system.

Those will fit, but the reason for using the 255's is to get the extra compression distance (1,585" vs. 1.500") so that the pistons will be closer to the deck. Then it's only a matter of decking the block .035 to .040" to get a reasonable deck height.

.035" to .040" ????
How much do you have to cut a 200 block to zero-deck 200 pistons??

Depends on the piston. Many replacement pistons are .010" shorter than stock to allow cleanup, but the stock deck height on a 200 is between .020 and .025" on the ones I've measured.

On a 250 the stock piston is between .125 and 140" down in the block. No quench area at all.
