2V -- ebay

That's not too far from my place (5 miles?). Somewhere near Rydalmere or Camellia, I think.

Adam. I'll ring him tomorrow. Bid closes Friday so I might be pushing it to get there before auction closes. Do you want to join me if I can arrange inspection?

Mark

Ship nobody wants it. Id go if i was you guys for $250 its a steal.
I also like how he described it as a race head
when i first put my 2V on my stock motor with an over jetted 350 it went just as slow as before and decided to rip me off $20 a week more fuel.
Learnt a bit since then...its now at the shop

Mark wants an Uncle Merv at it; just not sure where I'll be Friday at what time if I'm gonna tag along. I'm sure there's plenty of email action from faraway shores...

Domestic market is going flat. Sydney and Melbourne everyone is maxed on debt; looks like 9% on home loans by end 2006, we collectively are not in such good shape.

Mr K has a nice XYGS. If I do see him Friday, I'll try for a new picture or two.

One of those heads just sold on ebay in the US, a chap in Colorado had it. It sold for $800 US. One of you might want to buy it and ship it to the states for a profit.

Well, even if it goes for $250 Oz, there's the crating/shipping issues and the fact that the recent sale you refer to, was rebuilt. If I get to see it, I won't skimp on telling how it is. May be good, may be ugly.

I will have a look at it tomorrow. I really am looking at it as a spare.

Have spoken to the seller. Valves are seized in head. He also bought it as a spare and tells me it needs work. If I buy it it won't be to sell it at a profit.

One other point. He describes the carby as a standard "Ford" Holley?
They had Strombergs on them. I'm not sure what he means as the photo shows a Holley on the inlet manifold not a Stromberg.

Hi, how was it?

I've got an XA 1V engine. I'm not going to mod it much (just extractors me thinks) would i be better off just leaving the 1V on it? I have a mate with 1 V extractors so it would save me a lot of money, but i want a bit of a go about it too. Not too much, just a nice smooth inline 6, its what i've always wanted! But i don't want to be dragged off at the lights by ma and pa in their magna

Also, if i were to buy a 2V head... what should i be looking for? I'm really new to fords and this is my first and maybe last restoration project. Thanks, btw... great forum... google is good for something!

Sounds like you need a Magna, then! They can be quick/competent enough cars, specially the AWD ones.

Extractors will do very little at all for performance (maybe a couple of HP on a standard motor). Get a light skim on the head if it's virginal ($60), a new Rollmaster or JP timing set ($120), Crow split pattern cam ($280), Crow valve springs ($100) and some generic precrossflow lifters ($80), cam change gasket kit ($65). Factor in whatever labour you can't do at home. Extra folding will be well spent on a nice dizzy rebuild or XE distributor conversion.

Then look at extractors, and either a carb conversion or 2V swap. It seems a boring way to progress, but gets you going fast enough.

Thanks addo. I think i'll ask more questions when i come around to wanting more from my engine. I promise these will be my last questions for a while  . (on this subject)

What's a virginal head? Would a light skim on the head be a surface regrind in technical terms? Other then that i understand everything. I think i'll put in a nice strong drivetrain (C4 + 9 inch diff) and wait for the engine to die... it smokes out of the oil cap at the moment. I don't have a compression tester yet so i can't tell what shes like. It might be a good engine... its had 3 or more in it but i don't know what stage this one is at.

p.s. sorry for all the thread hi-jacking...

Repeat after me: "I do not need a 9 inch diff"

This is possibly one of the greatest bum steers. You only need a properly assembled Borg-Warner with 4 pinion centre. This will handle anything you're likely to build. Most diffs fail because the preload is gone, and they shock the internals with every launch; it eventually hammers itself to pieces.

The head should CC at about 56-58CC but the factory gasket is up to 15 thou thinner than ACL repros. You need to make up for this if it hasn't been compensated already.

If compression's down stuffing more fuel in won't really do a lot (meaning a 2V conversion). But with a re-ring, you may find good miles in it yet. They will run forever, just get thirstier and more gutless.

Cheers!

I bought the 2v from Colorado, and yes it was rebuilt. Also ported, pollished, oversizes stainless back cut valves, three angle valve job, teflon valve seals, dual valve springs, and retainers.

Well worth the $800, I think.

Brian.

Well team I bought the 2V. The guy pulled it off ebay because I had spoken to him over the phone and no one else had shown any real interest. He had it as a spare from a motor that had gone to god.
I will be either keeping it as a spare or using it to as my high performance head. Roller rockers, etc.

His reference to racing head was simply that they were used in limited circumstance on some race cars. He thought the Holley was original.
He also told me that in '72/73 Ford put some 2V's into XA's with a toploader and called them Allan Moffat specials. I had never heard of this before. If it is true I suspect it was to use up the last of 2V production prior to Ford introducing the Aus built Clevelands which as I recall arrived about this time. As a kid I remember the 2V's were only ever seen as a poor man's V8 which I believe explains why my GS survived unmolested.
