Took my Cortina 4 speed 250 2V out for a run today just to test economy. It has a mild cam and on a 150 km trip over hilly terrain on the highway and through the city I averaged for the trip 11.0 litres per 100 kilometers which equals 25-26 mpg. I made sure this was accurately measured by measuring the petrol out by hand myself, litre by litre.
After some consultation yesterday I re-jetted the 500 from a previous #71 jets which returned 14 litres per hundred down to #68 jets to get the above figures. I have noticed no difference in power and the engine idles smoother (was running too rich)

I am pleased with the result as the 2V in original form was good for 21-25 cruising and much worse than that through the city. It originally came with the much smaller Stromberg carby ect ect.

WHat sort of power are you looking at with your setup? I would have thought that that size holley would need a pretty wild cam to make the most of the setup.
Any 1/4 mile times?

Pete

Remmember a 500 holley is only about 350 cfm. A little bit too much or not quite enough cfm for a standard 250 2V depending on who you listen too.
Apparently from what Ive heard from previous posts a 500 Holley doesnt work that well with hot cams that have durations above 280 degrees advertised. Another guy who tried one on his stocker 250 2V reckons it is no good with a cam but OK on a stocker (fuel standoff problem)
Mine is a fairly mild cam 204 at 50 (bit less that 270) and as a result works well with the 500 with very slight fluctuation and bad economy
below 1800 rpm. I could probably go more with the cam (may do sometime) and a dual pattern cam might help get around the fuel standoff problem. The large inlet ports on the 2V probably dont help this either.
It a shame its a lot of guesswork in trying to work out what cam may work to improve the performance with my set up but at present
its probably no good for anything above 4000 rpm.
Maybe there are others whos experience has been different
Cheers Tim
