Took my Cortina 4 speed 250 2V out for a run today just to test economy. It has a mild cam and on a 150 km trip over hilly terrain on the highway and through the city I averaged for the trip 11.0 litres per 100 kilometers which equals 25-26 mpg. I made sure this was accurately measured by measuring the petrol out by hand myself, litre by litre.
After some consultation yesterday I re-jetted the 500 from a previous #71 jets which returned 14 litres per hundred down to #68 jets to get the above figures. I have noticed no difference in power and the engine idles smoother (was running too rich)
I am pleased with the result as the 2V in original form was good for 21-25 cruising and much worse than that through the city. It originally came with the much smaller Stromberg carby ect ect.
