i found a Redline un drilled 2V flange adaptor today at a auto parts store cheap, this be ok to drill and tap for my machined out log head when i do it for a 350 Holley?

Yes.

Although they are not ideal when you consider two 1.5" throttle holes from the Holley 350 cfm carb are then going down into a 1.3, 1.5 or 1.6875" hole (depending on head year), the bolt on adaptor is stable and definately won't crack like a lot of direct mount adaptors do. Copy danielson's LP Gas XW 221 http://www.fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 73#p230073

and the 73greenmachine's early 250 log head "rout out".

You can easily drill out large holes on any log head...

The geometry of the carb holes for just one of the 500 cfm Holley 4412 carbs is two throttles, 1.6875" each but only two 1.375" venturis, so it needs 2.969 sq inches of hole to flow as well, so rout out the one centre hole to 1.890 inch with a concrete cutter bit used for drilling drain holes in building foundations or walls.

When considering the smaller versions such as the 7448 350 cfm carb, it has two 1.5" holes, but the venturis are only 1.1875",and thats the effective working zone and area of 2.215 sq in. That means just a 1.6875 inch hole were the 1-bbl carb used to would work. The 350 cfm carb works very well with the stock 1971 on wards 250 head 1-bbl port size. There is a power loss over direct mount set up espoused in the Falcon Six Handbook, but it has to be weighed in with the extra effort required to direct mount and cap screw an area that is failry thin and free of excess meat. Occasionally, it cracks.

I am seeing two different types of mounting the flange, Classic Inlines has the adaptor facing the head eg rectangular section while this above would mount the rectangular face at the front, which is better? carb with bowl at front or carb with bowl on side, is one way easier for the carb linkage than the other? Seeing i need a extractor gasket and want something better than what we have here i was going to order the classic inline gasket, i am on my third gasket in 12 months. I take it no one down under has the more meat gasket?

The Weber 2-bbl carb one is the only one which can fit rectangular face at front. It suits Falcon XE/XF Weber ADM 34, Cortina Weber DGAV 32/36.

The Holley 7448 350 cfm is mounted Classic inlines style, and that works better as fuel mixture distribution is poor if its mounted the other way around, and there isn't space to run a linkage any other way.

Redline make both adaptors. Do your 350 cfm carb the Classic inlines way.

As for the exhast header/extractor gasket, you need to use better fasteners and retorque periodically. Use of BMC/BL Mini 1275 brass bolts will help keep the torque spec up without losening off. Some don't use gaskets at all. Copper cote, a special bond braker used in drilling, can help you keep the gasket sealed under heat if you apply a smear. Others use the stndard gasket and a smear of Redcote, torqued three times in a 48 hour period after three heating and cooling cycles.

My collector is being made tomorrow, we are going to check the head for straightness, and if so heat it up and get it straight, my exhaust guy said if its all straight juts dont use the gasket, we will uses some 750 degree silicone and i may still use studs or may not have to, if its to warped, it will have to come off but for now, i will just regasket if this is true, that way i can race next weekend.

I can see you are resourcefull and have most of the answers worked out already. Regards Holley 2-bbl 2300 series 350 cfm carb, look at this below

If your going turbo, XFlow_Fairlane has been involved with turbo log sixes in his Compact Fairlane and now Aussie Cross flows. He's doing a Homer Simpson at a nuclear plant in Kansas, so he might be a little busy, but he's got all the answers in his posts for where you might be heading.
