cant decide if i should subject myself to the headaches and unavoidable swearing  that comes with tuning a tripower setup. any of you with experiance have any suggestions. if i do decide on this neat setup  which carbs should i run with which cam. i plan to run a hedder and about 9.5 or 10.0 to 1 comp. can i expect a nice gain in hp? a loss in mpg? i know i will get more oo's and aaww's than i would with a single 1bbl
but if this is going to be a major pita i dont know if im willing to subject myself to this torture. any input is always appritiated. wll almost all

You and CobraSix need to have a pow-wow. After cussin' over the linkage, and doing the works getting the thing set-up, you'd be able to charge agency fees on tuning up everyone elses! Check-out Praisethelowered too. It seems to me sixes are soo simple that you must decide to get something tricky or complicated just to know what it feels like!

after it's set-up....it's no problem ..if you like to tinker or get away from the honey do list every weekend ..do it.

i also have the 3bbl setup its alot of work getting the linkgage setup and it seems to be alot of tunning

mluck where did u get your mallory unilite from? im looking for one but the cheapest i found is $300+

I guess I'll say it's not that bad or you get very good at balancing carbs so it becomes no big deal :P

Really I never had a problem with linkage (the throttle arm is differant on the Comet/Falcons than the Mustangs) and never had much trouble with it, if only the rest of my car was in goo enough shape to handle it

See Ya,
Mike

The only issue I ever had with the linkage was setting up a link between my old pushrod and the offy linkage. I just bent up some flat stock aluminum to use.

As far as tuning and keep running. Sure it's more complicated and involved with a one carb set up so you can expect some extra work, but it isn't insane. Mine ran pretty consistant once I got it up and running. But, I wanted to return to simple which is why I went to the Aussie head.

As far as HP gain...it is as much as (if not more then) the Aussie head gain. It has ideal distribution and a nice progressive set up so it will only eat fuel when you really step on it. It will make your car sound like a beast under the hood (just ask Al).

If you are going to run a header, consider switching to a cable throttle, it'll be much easier.

Wasn't the Offy originally designed for the Falcon's bellcrank-type linkage (that has the straight rod pulling the linkage towards the back of the car)?

I have the Offy too and it runs great. I am running a Mallory Uni-lite distributor, so I have not really had to mess with it much at all since I got it running.

yeah- since it idles on the center carb only that is where you will be concentrating. The bad reputation comes from non-progressive multi-carb set ups where you have to sync the carbs. . . that is a pain.

it's everthing else that I've had problems with lately. :(

well you guys are doing a pretty bad job of talking me out of this :D :D .
still have some time to think it over, but i really am leaning in the multible carb direction.
i t would really help my decition to do this if i could find the manifold somewhere other than cliffy. i will be scrounging the swap meets this summer hoping for a good deal.
if all you ebayers would keep your  open for me. i would appriciate it.
thanks ,rob

There's an offy 3in1 on auction right now. Course it lacks the throttle linkage, u-bolts and o-rings. Key word: Offenhauser.
