G'day blokes

I'm considering a project that will require a 3 speed manual gearbox from a 1967 200 ci to be mated to an EB 4.0 engine. Does anyone have any info that would be of assistance to me. Things like possible changing of the bell housing etc. Oh, yes I do know this is an unusual conbination but then again so am I.

How are you coping with the ECU? Planning to use an electronic sender on the tranny? What about the clutch actuation - preferring cable or hydraulic?

Potentially, I can see the early input shaft being too short.

I have to ask. Why a 3 Speed whan a modern 5 Speed would be a better performance and economy swap ?

Ive got a 3speed Borgie behind my 2V and its ok.... :P

Pulls 40miles in first and 75miles in second with a 2.92 rear end. Im considering a 3.23 for a bit quicker pick up as my cam is fairly mild.

I say why not do it, at least look into it and see if its do-able

Hi,
I think anything is "doable"
But how much do you want to spend to be different?
Yes a five speed would give better fuel economy and better performance but continually changing gears is a drag in traffic.
The three speed borgie is a tough unit, I have abused many and not found a weak point.
Clutches, Yes, Universals, Yes, found their weak points.
Noel.
be different but not pointless

U can use the t5 bell housing , make up a spacer ring to go over the outer snout casing on the 3 speed to center the 3speed in the t5 bell housing, then just re-drill the holes for the 3 speed into the T5 bell.....

BUt mate i wouldnt bother the 3 speeds are pretty weak, my bosses used to run one behind a speed way 4.0 that made 270KW.. running 2nd gear and 3.7-4:11 gears the old 3 speed used to pop every couple of meets .... now they just use a t5 in second but use factory fitted 3.08's .. and never broken a t5 yet

I kept breaking 3 speeds in a Transit, but it was reverse that used to go for some wierd reason. Ate about half a dozen in a couple of years.

My 3 speed is from my first ever Corty A TD 200 and you can imagine how much punishment that car got.

Changed the oil and now its behing my worked 2V and no probs so far. Ive got a Speco shifter, best investment towards the 3 speed
