hi, do you guys know if the cam of the 144-170 4 mains are THE SAME (i mean if i take a 200 7 mains cam, and put in a 170 4 main if that will work or not) that the cam of the 170-200 7 mains??

in the cranecams or the compcams page says "144-170-200-250" and only one type of cam... 4 mains and 7 mains doesn´t matter??

i ask because here in argentina we have the 170-187 4 mains, and the 188-221/221sp 7 mains, and a friend have a 221 SP cam, i want to know if i can use it in my 170 4 mains...

i hope you can understand what i trying to say, hard to write english for me... :(

The 4 mains versus 7 mains is in reference to the number of main bearings supporting the crankshaft. This does not affect the cam, nor the cam bearings. The only thing to watch out for is early blocks not drilled for hydraulic lifters, but I think that ended sometime in '63.

Of course, this is for US domestic blocks, don't know about Argentinian castings. :(

Yayo - the SP cam will physically fit your 170, but be careful:

Is this SP cam hydraulic or solid, and what is the one you have in your 170 now?

You can change a solid cam for another solid cam, or a hydraulic cam for a solid cam, but typically not a solid cam for a hydraulic cam.

the 170 originally in argentina comes with solid cam, the sp cam is also solid
