I put a single-wire six volt alternator on an old Allis-Chalmers Model C tractor that I used to own; it was negative ground. Worked fine, except I had to rev that little engine up to max rpm (1800) before the alternator would excite itself and start charging, then it would keep charging at lower speeds too.
