'64 200 -- Solid or Hydraulic Lifters?

I hope this isn't a stupid question. I'm changing the head on a 1964 200 motor. The plate on the side says 1964. It has five freeze-out plugs on the side, so I'm assuming it's one with seven main bearings.

I expected to see solid lifters in the motor. It has adjustable rockers, with solid push rods. But when I look down at the lifter, I see the little "internal retainer wire" in the top that I'm used to seeing in a hydraulic lifter. Of course they're not letting me pluck them out for a better look.

Without knowing for sure what type of lifter is in this thing, I don't know what kind of initial adjustment I should do.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Any ideas? The engine's not in the original car. It's probably out of a Fairlane or some such thing; not it's in an Econoline.

Thanks for the help.

if they are hydralic lifters you will be able to push down on the pushrod slightly.the falcon handbook says that 'during the 1964 model year all engines were fitted with hydraulic lifters'.i put adjustible rockers on my 1966 170 to make it easier to preload the lifters.

Thanks for the reply. There's no movement at all when I try to push down on the lifters with a pushrod, but the engine hasn't been run in a couple of weeks too...
