Wow! That's like asking someone to describe the Human Genome in detail!

Joe, there's a whole bunch of steps in removing, rebuilding, reinstalling and tuning a 200. Probably, the first step is to decide what you want your end result to be, I.E. stock, mild performance, high performance. Also, you need to determine your budget. Once you have your plan, parts list and the funds for the project, THEN you can start thinking about procedures. I second Jackfish's recommendation on the books that he mentioned, but would add a real 1965 Mustang shop manual. It has alot of info that you won't find in a Haynes or Chiltons.

Folks here on this forum can give you alot of help on both your plan and specific procedures.

By the way, Welcome to the forum :D

thanks i'll keep using the forum. i just want to do a stock rebuild of the engine and tranny. i'm getting a lot of heat and some smoke from the road draft tube and the valve cover gets very hot. i'm told its probably pistons so i thought a total rebuild would be in store. any advice?

also, can a new crate engine be purchased for this car? if so where can i find one?

I already talked to that guy selling that block on ebay. He doesn't seem real interested in selling it, i asked for some more pictures but he told me no. I'm trying to find someone around here thats doing a v-8 swap so I can take their old 6cyl. Haven't found anyone yet. I miss driving my stang.

Don't be too precious. I spent over $1200 on my long block here in LA. That looks like a good deal to me.

If I knew I would have to replace my 200 block I would try to find a 250. It would be a little bit of work to get it low enough in the bay but some adjustable mounts or 250 mounts off of a mav or something like that would probably work. That's just me...although if that guy has done all that work to the 200 and it doesn't go up to much I would be tempted..

I can't imagine he's not interested in selling it, they have another 15 rebuilds for sale in the same EBay store. I'll take my chances up to $250 or so on that block though since you can't barely find a block by itself in decent condition for that pre-rebuild. I have a '66 and '67 both with 200's I could put it in depending on my needs.

joe's 65,
Check out this seller on e-Bay:(using newest item is all)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-3-0 ... enameZWDVW
I bought an outstanding 200 from him about a month or so ago.
He gets quite a few in from day to day.
He just sold one with all fixtures recently for $119. AC etc, the basic enchiladi. Oh and had a C4 attached!
Speak to a James Hardin.

See what he can do in the shipping dept.
He's now my go to person for these.
He gets in bunches of cores every day.
Many are in excellent condition.
You're still taking a chance but I've been very satisfied.
Now having said that, one of two things will happen if you take advantage of this.
You'll get a real nice engine and I'll feel slighted, or you'll get a real ugly one and think harshly of me.
James is pretty honest so just talk with him if you call.
Oh, HIM ONLY!
FWIW
