68 distributor swap in a 66 mustang

I have discovered that my son's 1966 Mustang has a Holley 1946 non SCV carburetor mated with a load-a-matic distributor. The car gets pretty lousy gas mileage and the performance is lackluster. I would like to upgrade the distributor to a 1968 non load-a-matic to match with non SCV Holley 1946 carburetor.

I have several questions that I was hoping some one on the forum could help with. The existing distributor has a vacuum line that connects to a port on the Holley 1946. Do I just transfer this connection over to the new dizzy? Also, the vacuum canister on the 1968 dizzy extends out farther than the load-a-matic. It looks like this might hit the dip stick depending where it is rotated to set the timing.

Has anyone performed this swap that could give me some info and possibly some pictures.

Thanks
Joe

8) i have done a similar swap, a duraspark ll dist into a 66 170. the swap itself was quite easy, and to eliminate issues with the vacuum advance unit and the dipstick i just rotated the vacuum advance unit down so that it was perpendicular to the engine, and wired the cap accordingly.

I think I understand. By rotating the distributor out away from the dip stick, you shift the connections for plug wires around in a counterclockwise direction on the distributor cap. Is this correct?
