All Small Six 170 carb distributor question

This relates to all small sixes
I am new here. I just finished rebuilding my 69 Bronco with the original inline 170 in it. I just bought a new carquest T2613 distributor and they knew Holley 1904 replica carburetor. I'm not sure if my distributor is a load o matic or mechanical advance? Plus, my carburetor has what looks like a vacuum advanced nipple but it does not have a scv. Bottom line are these two compatible or can I make them work. Reason for u question is I have no power in second grear at high rpms. I'm thinking it's my advance?

I see a burn (arc) mark on your rotor, it must not be making contact with the carbon center inside your distributor cap.
Also, the condenser wire looks to be rubbing against the dist housing; the power wire going to the points is rubbing as well, and this can become a problem at some point. Check and verify the correct point setting, I would not rely on its accuracy right out of the box.
I don't think the distributor has a mechanical advance so without an scv it will not perform well. If you can rotate the rotor, turn loose and it snap back to where it was then it has a mechanical advance; you may just need to give it more ignition timing.

It does snap back when I move the rotor clockwise. Also I did buy it with a matching cap and rotor as one set.

I think that your distributor has the mechanical (centrifugal) advance, along with the vacuum advance. Not an SCV carb system. Also agree that the rotor is not contacting the center of the cap and arcing. replace rotor and see that top spring is up enough. Check your initial advance at idle with vac line off and adjust to specs. Take off vac line at dist and put a vacuum gauge on the line and see if vacuum registers when the engine speed is increased.. That would be your ported vacuum source.

Update. So I just clamped off the vacuum line. And set my timing to about 8 degrees advance. And immediately my engine started to idle super high. My timing was so off and I was compensating with my idle screw. I had no idea. This is because when I set my timing weeks ago I did it with the vacuum advance connected. I had no idea it makes such a difference when you're setting idle timing. Any ways I took it for a spin. Works beautiful. Goes up hill in second no problem. Thanks guys.

I see what looks like an adapter between the manifold and the carburetor, that is what I am looking for, but I don't know what it is or where to find one.

You may be talking about the carb spacer and there are different configurations this example is on the vintage inlines site and if not correct for your application sometimes available on ebay:

There are also adapters for attaching various carbs to the manifold also seen on vintage inlines site.

cant advise w/o more info.
What’s your application/end goal? Here is nother
of the 4 most desriable yrs of this vehicle. Values
cont to rise. I dont think it fair to offer w/o hearing:
is this an investment? toy, daily driver. For any car
one must have a vision to restore? to mod? For a
multi-purpose (not good at anything, fair at several)
like this its even more important or things get pretty
off pretty quickly. Will you ’send out’? what for, DIY
entirely? First bite @ the apple or done several B4?
How many were bronks?
More info given? better answers back~
