I think it has more to do with location. Junk yard 200's run from about 300-450 dollars and we don't have any U-Pull-It's so that's why I thought it was a good price.

The area where my folks live is full of junkyards, both "U-pull-it" and otherwise. There are also a lot of folks who just throw I-6 motors away in favor of V8's.

When I went to get my motor the guy tried really hard to sell me a V8. I paid the guy to pull the six and told him I'd be back in a week with a truck to get it. I called him the day I was supposed to pick it up..

Me - is my motor ready this morning?
Guy @ junkyard "That ford straight six? Uhhh... I ain't pulled it yet"
Me - can you pull it sometime this weekend?
Guy - I can have it pulled in an hour

Sure enough, when I got there the motor was hanging from a forklift by a seatbelt. They just used a torch and cut off everything that wasn't motor

I used to be able to just ride around the back roads and buy cars out of peoples' yards for 100 bucks, but in the last 10 years everybodys gone crusher happy :( it's a shame and the ones that don't want to sell think their cars worth a small fortune. I saw an 86' Buick Skylark in the paper the other day for 7 grand some people are nuts, and if it says 90% restored that means it's got an cheap shot of paint over the dents and bondo with the floor 25% rusted out and new carpet. No joke, thats what most "restored" cars look like around here.

Yeah, its a sad state of affairs. I got lucky and got mine for free from a friend, but I have about 2k into it so far restoring it, new interior, carpet, headliner, etc. all new rubber everywhere, new windows, transmission and motor work. Even with the 2k I've put into it, It's probably worth 1500 tops, and If I had had to pay for it, my profit margin would be even lower. People think old automatically means $. Not always the case. Stupid Barrett-Jackson.

I've got close to 2k in mine and its pretty sad. Bought the car for $400, and spent a small fortune re-wiring it and replacing all the bad electiical parts and fixing the previous owners hack-job of a C4 swap. Then the motor blew, which will probably be another $600-$800 when all is said and done. But I will have a solid daily-driver

Who would have ever thought that VW Beetles would be selling for $2k.

A Vw for 2k is unheard of around here. If the motor will crank at all they think its worth 3500 to 5000. You used to be able to buy them for 300 all day long. Last Mach 1 I looked at about 8 years ago didn't run, was just about rusted out, with a ragged interior and the guy wanted 6500 for it. Its a shame because I love Mach 1's :(
