a 226 for a friend, questions

hello all whats up, my bud has a 50 ford with a flatty 226. he's having problems finding a starter for his ride. any help would be great, or at least a better start point to look. thank you all......jake

The starter is the same as the flathead V8s (without automatic transmission). '32 to '53 Ford starters are interchangeable.

I picked up a 12V starter at a swapmeet the guy said fit a 390. Soon after my 226/6V starter gave up. So, I took both starters apart and put the 6V armeature in the 12V housing. That was 3 months ago, the truck is my daily driver and it hasen't given me any problems.
