Iam kinda in the same boat. I want some type of air cleaned that will let the motor take advantage of the hood scoop. The 1bbl on my 250 is a little over 3in in diameter. let us know if you come up with anything

I have a Carter RBS 1bbl carb on my engine from a '72 250 Mustang and the diameter is roughly about 2". I have that small air cleaner form Autozone for the 1bbl and a bigger one would be nice.

Buy a 10"x2" chrome air filter assembly. Cut out the inside of the bottom where the lip turns down. Just around the lip as close as you can get.

Take a stock air cleaner assembly that fits your carb. Cut off the outside lip around the bottom that turns up. Just as close to the lip as you can get.

Use silicone sealer between the two pieces and pop rivet the two bottom pieces together. With the new piece on top of the old bottom.

Be sure to center the pieces before riveting them together.

You then have a chrome air filter assembly that will fit your 1 bbl carb.

You could even use an aluminum air filter if you wanted to.

All I used on my '83 200 is a adapter and a 9x2 air filter. Spectre PN# 4950 is the adapter/riser that I used. It sits on top of the 1-bbl carb, then the air cleaner ( Spectre #4770) sits on top of that. I actually flipped the bottom plate of the air cleaner which lowered the assembly so it would clear the hood. To finish it off, I used a 1/4x20 bolt instead of a carb stud, that way the head of the bolt sits flush with the air cleaner lid and holds everything tight.
