Alternative carb rebuild resources

Here are some alternatives to paying high $$$ for a rebuild from the "recommended" source found all over this website and others.

$200 for an 1100 rebuild. Highly recommended by the Mustang Club of Canada (Toronto).

Based in Phoenix, this shop offers a warranty on their work. $200 average rebuild cost (quoted).

$100 to $200 depending on condition of core.

Virginia Mustang offers rebuild services for the 1100, but no concours work. Strictly Ford spec. Dirt cheap.

Thanks for the recommendations Patrick. Always good to have multiple sources to choose from. I may have used the Phoenix based source in the past. I also had good luck with them.

Also check with other car clubs in your area to see if there are any local people. I found a guy in my area that I would put up against anyone else in the world. Typical rebuilds are around $150 and that includes throttle re bushing. I think he just does carry in, no shipping or on cars. He does odd things and tweaks if you want also. The times I have had issues others have told me it was the carb and when I talked to him he said if I wanted he would make the adjustments I thought I wanted but said it aint the carb. Every time he was right and I found the problem elsewhere. I will take em apart but if they look abused they go to him. After I know they are right I will rebuild them myself as needed.

Pretty much anyone (including me) can do a top quality rebuild on a non abused unaltered carb. Where all the expertise and experience comes in is rebuilding one that has been altered and or abused. Since they quit putting carbs on most cars in the mid 80's there are getting to be fewer and fewer non abused or altered carbs out there. Hopefully they will keep making parts. Some things were getting hard to get back before the 'bad economy' hit.

Not sure if there is a 'recommended' carb purveyor. There is the guy who makes his living selling various Ford Six parts, including carburetors, and OWNS THIS SITE. You know, the place where you are free to slag almost anyone, to a point - including the owner of this site - because of your bad experience.

People do share recommendations, just like yours. There is no party line here. Just the finish line. Some come in ahead of others.
