alternator

As in power for serious stereo amps? You should be able to pick something up under $200 or so.

An easy, pretty cheap and easy to find one would just be a high amp 1-wire GM style I would think ?

And be sure and bypass the factory ammeter(if equipted) if you are running a high amp alternator with alot of current draws on it as well...they are not rated for it.

I've thought about doing the 3G alternator a LOT, but I can't figure the thing out...

Can you use a high current alternator (such as 130A) while keeping your stock (and probably crappy) wires?

You have to fit a new charge wire between the alternator and battery. Assuming every other wire is still capable of performing as designed, then they may stay.

Any new bits will need adequate gauge running for them - you can't tap into the exisiting loom for stereo gear (for example).

8) addo is right, you need a new charge wire, and high power stereo equipment, and other high amp draw devices are going to need their own feed wires, but the stock wiring system can be used with no problem. each device draws only a certain amount of current, and the regulator in the alternator only allows the alternator to put out the current needed.
