Aluminum Water Pump

I spent the last week tracking down an Aluminum water pump for a 200 Ford I6. I read on the board that GMB makes an aluminum water pump for the 79 Fairmont and the 80 Zephyr. The previous posts recommended purchasing the parts at partsamerican but when I checked, there were no listings for GMB units.

I have found a guy on Ebay who has the units for about $33.00 + shipping:

waterpump warehouse.

Is this the same pump as mentioned on the board before?

I was working today and saw a piece of paper about how to determine if the customers waterpump was one of the brands we carry and I believe the brand ASC was a manufacturer of the GMB units. Which is one of the brands that Advance/Discount autoparts carries (where I work) I will have to check the chart again to verify that though. but the more I am thinking about it the more I am thinking that it wasnt. I Will take a look at one tomorrow and see if its aluminum.

*edit* I just saw a post online about a parts store carrying ASC/GMB so I am thinking they are together.

otherwise thru advance it would run $33 for the one with a lifetime warrenty no shipping or anything... but thats only if you have one around you, I believe Autozone carries the same brand.

*edit* lol this is my last time editing.... but I forgot to mention that the company Parts America is the one who runs Advance Autoparts website which is why there are parts listed on there that you cant find/get at the store.

Summit definitely has the item.
I also think autopartsgiant has it, and it looks like they have free shipping right now for orders over $50.00.
From what I've read, gmb is the only confirmed manufacturer of the aluminum unit.
I've read that if you go to the parts store, you should check the item for being aluminum as the cast iron parts are sometimes substituted.

Does anyone know if the 60's units had a temp gauge location. Looks like the aluminum ones do. I want to run a temp gauge for the electric fan. I was going to use the waterneck, but this might be a better location as it is upstream from the thermostat

I didn't see it at summit at first because I was specifically looking for the 79 fairmont or 80 zephyr. If you sort by ford and 3.3l, it should come up

I checked just to verify the GMB/ASC thing and they are infact related. We sell them under the brand Airtex, the same manufacturer of our fuel pumps. However the one I have instock is NOT aluminum.

Is this the same waterpump Todd Fields was selling several years ago??

If it is the same pump the lower hose inlet is a little higher than a stock pump & the heater hose fitting is angled more to the lower hose inlet.

If that is so it requires a different heater hose fitting to still be able the hook up the hose close to the original position????? Bill
