yea we covered flowmasters and purple hornies and that....but has anyone tried a cat back system for their car? they're fairly pricey....but my friends brothers camaro with a V6 sounds real killer with it....i might go that way for an exhaust system if it will fit....but the one i saw from JEGS is about 500 bucks...that is the entire system which is i think meant to bolt on to the existing tube....but it looks real cool its got 2 solid chrome tubes which get larger as it gets to the end...i think it would sound realsweet....but i was just wondering if anyone has a cat back??? *everytime i hear the sound file of the six from our other topic (glasspack vs turbo) i get real excited cause i love that sound....

cat back systems run from the catalytic converter back
and since a relative handful of us have cats on our cars, i don't think you'll find many of us with them

has any one tried just dimpeling the exhaust system , I believe the z28 cameros of an early vintage did this from the factory w/o any muffler and as i recall they were not obnoxiously loud ??? just a thought ,I am sure some one here has the time and a vice w/ some 1" hard pipe and patience to place the many dimples ,,who knows micht sound cool and still create some back pressure, ofcourse how deep should the dimples be and how many ? Any scientific types here ?

jarb: what would u do to dimple the pipes...i think i sawsomething like that being sold in the JEGS or summit catalogue....

sorry i think i'm just mistaken on what the cat back system was....i mean the pics that ive seen of cat back mufflers were a pipe going from the existing pipe (the cat...now that i know and it makes sense) but it went into a sideways muffler at the rear of the car just infront of the gas tank and comming out with duel exhaust ....so basically has anyone used a sideways type muffler...which went from single to duel exhaust???....i'll see if i can find a picture....

here is the exact system i was looking at...hehe alright...

I put a dynomax camaro muffler [ one in, two out ] on my 66 coupe--sounds good. The inlet/outlets are 2 1/2" so I had to weld up some reducers and elbows. Used 2 1/4" tailpipes. The muffler fits in right where the stock 200 muffler goes.

Dave, chambered exhaust was used on corvettes from 65-67 on 327 & 396 & 454 corvettes as a factory option or over the counter add on. they were also offered on the camaro of certain years i'm not familiar with. chambered exhaust pipes are still offered in the summit & possibly jegs catologs.
I think they sound great on a v-8, very deep but rather loud sound. what they sound like on a sixcylinder could be a different story.
Has anybody tried them on the six??? wsaIII

i might go down to the car yard this weekend....since the cars not insured right now......and i'll check out the camaros...they have the 70-80's comaros....but there arent any corvettes....i think all thats needed for a muffler is something to clean up the sound of the straight pipe...cause right now i got straight pipe and it sounds alright...with a nice rumble but it sounds real messy....so something to clean up the sound but still keep it loud and rumbly....and i like the idea of the duel exhaust out the back.....thanks for the tips of the camaros..i'll be sure to check it out...

i recall seeing that site somewhere along the line....prices are quite high unless u get the aluminum setup....sespecially considering i have to pay in canadian $$.....i'll take a look at some used setups....from the car yard....and with the chambered exhaust u would need a Y pipe...which is no big deal...but wouldnt it make sense to just use a 1-2 pipe muffler...maybe magnaflow....and then stick some large 3-4" boom tubes on the end of the pipes for a sweet look and to resonate the sound more??? just a thought....id rather spent a thousand bucks on the engine and buy crappy exhaust.....but 400 bucks sounds good....not like i need a shop to install it at least...just trying to utilize my income tax return $$ but i really did like the sound that my frinds V6 made with the setup like the picture i posted.....
