Ok as previously mentioned I am changing over from my 1 bbl
in the future, I still have to change to cable throttle, (have not figured out what parts I am going to use doing it yet)

This question....
when I had the carb mounted on the car, Stovebolt adapter drilled to direct mount without Ford baseplate under it, It still looked mighty scarce on hood clearance.
What is the shortest air cleaner I can get to fit, does anyone make a drop base cleaner for this or would I need to fab one?

I have the carb allready and jetted it using guidelines from the sticky in these pages, should I stay with this carb, or is there an easier carb swap to the 2 bbl, as far as hood clearance and dealing with linkages?

Any Ideas, any hints are appreciated!

Tim

once you know how much clearance you have (stovebolt told me to put some "clay on top of the carb" -presumbably protected with some plastic first) you make those judgements. If your real close and cant fit any 2" filter assmbly with some modification to the cleaner housing, I'd give K&N a look and a call as they come up with solutions for me before... David SoCal

I used a drop-based cleaner I found a the local Kragen, which worked pretty well. For clearance, since many of us don't have modelling clay lying around, roll up some tin foil into a tube the diameter of the carb opening, close the hood and measure the crushed tube.

I bought a $20 air cleaner from a local auto parts store. It's a 14" Mr. Gasket...I cut out the bottom and used a rubber mallet to flatten the bottom a little more, essentially making it a drop-base. To make it fit, I used the 32/36 carb/base plate adapter from Stovebolt..

Here's the adapter..
