...Problem with putting a screen in the line is that you run the potential of it clogging flow completely...leading to a quick overheat of the engine.
...
As far as truly fixing the problem, I believe I have. My water pump is new, not even rebuilt. My heater core is a brand new system from www.nostalgicairparts.com, the stat is new, the 16" electric fan is more than strong enough and now my radiator is again brand new. The filter I'm fabbing up ...cheap insurance.
Why did this happen originally? My guess is when I originally blew a head gasket, i got a few pieces in the water jacket. I drive this car daily so there was "some" small amount of scale in the engine that broke loose as well. I really did flush it many, many times so I'm surprised at any amount of scale being present, but just the same, it was there. And it was enough to clog the radiator.
I don't believe the filter I'm fabbing up will clog the system. I'm designing it exactly like the GANO unit, actually a bit simpler, but the same coned mesh screen type. It will be easy to access and check for debris from time to time. Much easier than replacing a radiator!
