Another rear sump oil pan question

Don't know of any unless there was one built for a Bronco 4x4 you may have to build one using a combo of a rear sump late 200 pan and the front sump 250. Time to break out the welder :mrgreen:
 
Yeah, I thought about that but just thought if any one new of a rear sump pan I could maybe avoid that. Not even sure if I need one--I haven't pulled the flat head out of the 49 yet to try the 250 for a fit. Maybe I'll get lucky!

I once saw a 250 in a 54 Ford Customline don't remember what pan it used. Looking at my 54 you I would say you would need a rear sump to fit a 49 the Flathead V8's were too.
 
A guy I know says you can flip the pan around front to back.
Can anybody verify this might be a possibility?
 
I don't know doesn’t seam that it could do that easy. Any one that has a 250 out might try it. You could slice the pan just above the rail and swap it around and weld it back together. :hmmm:
 
I've looked at mine and I don't see how you could just turn it around the other way. There is a little "jog" on one side of the pan at the rail and the other side is pretty much straight.

I was thinking about doing exactly what Bubba said, but there's not much meat at the one end to be cutting it and reversing it. And yeah, Bubba, the 49 through 53's are just about identical in the front suspension/crossmember area and I imagine the 54 is real close. My 55 is a little different but still would definitely need a rear sump pan.

the oil pump is toward the front and sticks down pretty far.
 
There you go good old backyard engineering there are lots of ways to make them sixes fit into different car body styles that never had them. I built several rear sump oil pans for my old drag racers would just scribe a line around pan and cut it off about 1 1/2 to 2 inches above the pan rail. Than make or get some sheet metal sheared off to width I needed to clear the oil pump slating it back to rear next build a bottom to fit the sides bolt it down to a block or welding table and put it together. I am going to be doing one real soon for a 300 BB6 for a 63 Fairlane that has an Econoline front axle it’s like an old Gasser or /FX drag car it needs a deep rear sump pan :nod:
