Anybody out there running the HEI ignition

Hey there, I am looking to do an Ignition upgrade, and was leaning towards the DUI, but after reading allof the negative posts of how the unit has to be recurved for it to work is a little disheartening, it SHOULD COME recurved if thats the issue, I saw the HEI advertised as a poor mans DUI, being a poor man I thought I'd ask ifanyone is using one of these and how doyou like it.

Thanks

The DUI is a decent distributor if set up for your engine combinations.
Mike also sells reman autolite DS11 distributors at a reasonable cost.
Since each one needs to be recurved for your engine which includes an adjustable vacuum advance & proper total advance & springs, the DS11 is less expensive to set up & with the money you saved get a MSD-6AL ignition box which with the proper harness from MSD it is a direct plugin to the DS11.
I recurve distributors with my sun distributor testor machine & it will save you money to set up the DS11.
PM me if interested in this service. Bill

I have a DUI. It's fine, but for the money you could do much better. Before that I had an AutoZone or Pep Boys parts store DSII which, with all accessories (modules, etc), costs less than half of what the DUI cost and could have been tuned to work exactly as well. The DSII is the way to go.

EDIT: They're finally selling the knock off HEI's on fleabay (about $150, and as low as $100 I think)...they've been selling the bent8 knock-offs for some time, but have yet to hear anyone report on the use of one here with an i6. Of course do not have the same dyna module and coil as DUI, but the form factor looks about the same. Sill no reports AFAIK.

some 1 on here gave me a link to the GM HEI schematic - it seemed very simple (in wring, & prts: heat sink, 'contact paste', etc) seemed like "go for less" or some such site...
PM if interested, I'll go to my archive to look it up.

good choice for most all applications (highest number of vehicles out there)...
