hi am checking out my 200ci engine -
have measured the head gaskets (used) at 1.2mm - ie 48 thou

any body know if there is any brand /type ( available in aust) that is thinner - say 40 thou (1mm )crushed?
-
the pistons are 11 though down the deck and with the 48 thou gasket means i need to skim 19 thou off the deck and have the pistons out by 9 - 10 thou to give the 40 thou squish(quench).

maybe not a big deal but was just wondering if there was any to save me having the pistons out of the deck by the 10 thou.

hey brett. Mike her ein the US (classic inlines and runs this siite) is having multi layer steel gaskets made in thinner thicknesses (ccloser to the stock .020" I think)

if you need a couple sent down I can arrange if needed.

turbo thanks for the offer- i was on mikes site - dont think they are available yet ?

anyways i am hoping to get it back together by end of next week :) so may aybe for the future

addo - thats what conclusion i got to as well. so was tearing the block down last night to send off

the gaskets i had (used) are the ACL monotorque( 1.2mm- 48 thou).
and the new ACL's are about 1.35mm (53 though) thick (uncrushed)- so a crushed of about 1.2 mm(48thou) sound s right.

You can probably take off heaps. I'd shoot for less than 35 thou clearance crown to head when done. In reality, this is plenty of "slack" for the sixes unless you are running a methanol-powered speedway car.

The contrarian in me, says nobody's reported problems from overdecking one of these motors yet! Not suggesting you should be first, but you can always back off the CR by a little unshrouding or chamber polishing/reshaping.
