Hi All,
I have a 66 stick shift Mustang with the stock 1100 carb and load o matic dist.I'd like to upgrade to the 68 and newer dist. And an 1101 carb.I have an NOS Dist but I still need the carb.I know the one to get is off of a 69 250 Mustang.I guess my real question is what other vehicles had the carb I'm looking for ?I know the 1101 was available on earlier full size cars but I'm not sure if those used Load o matics as well? The car is basically stock and I'd like to keep it that way(sort of) so I definitely want to stay with an Autolite carb. Thanks

you can get a nicely reconditioned and upgraded 1101 from ponycarbs. they also do some re-engineering of the carbs to eliminate some design issues. they are spendy but we put one on our 66 mustang 200 c.i. with a later model points distributor and it started more easily, has eliminated the bogs and flat spots, idles' very smoothly, accelerates well. just got home after about a 20 mile drive and was, again, very very happy that we made these changes. also put on a hotter coil, performance spark plug wires and a 2" exhaust with a turbo muffler. the car is now fun to drive.

Thanks for the input. What I'm really looking for is where (in what vehicles) I can find an 1101 core/carb that would work for my application besides 69 250 Mustangs .I definitely don't want to go the pony carbs route I've talked to Jon and crew for years and they know what they are doing. To confess one of my hobbies is playing with Autolite carbs mainly 2100/4100's as well as 1100's .Unfortunately in my vast collection of carbs I don't have any 1101's.Whatever I get I plan on going through it before using it.It sounds like you've made some nice improvements to your car,I'm planning to keep mine more or less stock looking But I wouldn't mind picking up a few horses here and there with some minor improvements. Thanks again

To the best of my knowledge, '69 was the only year that Ford used the 1101 on the 250 Mustang. It was also unique because it did not have a SCV. By 1970 model year Ford had gone over to the Carter RBS as the on 250 engines.

The 1101 was also used on the '63 & '64 Ford cars with a 223 six, but these 1101s had a SCV.

It may be possible that some early Maverick/Comets with 250s came out with the 1101s- because of the infamous "Empty Bin" policy at Ford.

I hope that helps you. What did you do about your exhaust upgrades?

Hey David,
Thanks for the info.I definitely want to get away from the SCV Because I want to run the later Distributor.I already have the dist and a pertronix to go in it.So I should be set once I locate a carb and like I said I'd like to get a core because I like to build my own carbs. As far as the exhaust I haven't done anything yet.I'm looking around a bit to get some ideas as mine is aging so I still have some time on that.I've been busy with other items on the car.I recently upgraded the car to a 3.03 trans and 5 lugs all around.I have it together and running well. But I have a noise in the rear,I thought the center was fine as is,but it looks like I'll be yanking that out as the noise sounds like a pinion bearing? I'll have to check further.I may also take the easy way and try a different center in there? We'll see. It's on my car project to do list.Which appears to be endless at this point.LOL.

You might want to put a "Wanted" ad in the "buy/ sell" part of this forum. You might find someone moving up to something else.

I know what you mean about a long list. I still have a couple of details that I wanted to get done this season, that are still pending. One is getting the underside of my hood cleaned up and repainted. the rest of my engine compartment looks pretty good. That's the short list.

I'm also struggling with trying to get a Holley 500 2V leaned out enough for good running on my 250. A big part of the problem is my 5,000 ft. elevation along with a non-stock cam. Life was simpler when I was happy with a '68 distributor with points and an 1101 carb.

I too have a penchant for Autolite carbs. I've got a 1.33 2100 in the bench that may go on sooner rather then later, if the #4412 doesn't straighten up.

I do recall seeing a 1101 on a '69 Ranchero a while back. Good luck on your search.

Adios, David
