Autolite 2100 inlet screen required?

I had heard that, contrary to popular belief, inlet screens should NOT be removed from Holley carbs.

I am mounting my Autolite 2100 on my falcon. I noticed that after the factory style filter, there is an inlet screen. Can I remove this without effecting the carb?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

8) i have never used inlet screens on any carburetor as they tend to cause problems.
