I got the carb adapter to fit with a few very minor taps on the top of the valve cover and some grinding on the lower corner of the adapter.

Installed the new V-8 gas pedal and a lokar 36" cable set up.

Tweaked the carb idle and mixture settings today and got the timing all set at 10 BTDC.

Took it out for a test drive...got rubber in first gear...first time. HOLY COW!!!! I can't believe what I've been missing!!!!

Talk about a huge change from a crappy 1100. :)

A couple of questions:

- I can't find an air cleaner to fit . I tried one that is 2 1/2" from flange to top, hit the hood. Took off the top, the 2" filter and base plate hit the hood. YGTBSM. Any ideas how to get an air cleaner to fit on the carb? Maybe a ducted inlet?

- The carb makes a sucking sound as I'd expect, but it also sort of is making a rattling sound, not valve train related as it doesn't speed up when I rev the engine. Any ideas or is that normal sound for a 2100?

Pics soon to come of the install and throttle cable set up.

Thanks
Steve-O

I also removed the carb spacer, so my adapter sits right on the intake log.

Did the drop base bump up against the choke element or carb body?

I also have the 2100, with the Clifford adapter and Lokar cable. I didn't have to do anything to the valve cover, but the adapter did need some grinding to clear the throttle linkage. I got my air cleaner at Autozone. It's nothing special, not a drop base or anything. It's very close, but it does clear the hood.

I don't have any rattles like you describe. Doubt that's normal.

the one i listed cleared everything fine and I used the factory pcv spacer too

Some pics....

This is an image of the attachment for the V-8 gas pedal. In my case there were holes there ready to use.

This is my set up before I put on the throttle linkages.

I fabricated some mounts from angle aluminum and oddly some woodworking flat galvanized steel connectors. I made one bend, drilled it out to 5/16 and a perfect throttle bracket. I used extra springs to get the return tension a bit more than usual. I also had the pedal in the no throttle position with blocks of wood while I set up the carb throttle cables.

Here is a look down alongside the engine towards the firewall.

One more shot of the set up. I'm sure it could be done a lot neater, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Awesome sound and WHAT POWER!!!!!

If anyone would like any more pictures to be able to install a cable throttle let me know...

Steve-
Glad it worked out!
The linkage looks better than my initial linkage on my HW 5200- I used steel brackets and a spare throttle cable attached with an old hose clamp.

After I got all the kinks out (no pun intended) I then made some nicer brackets/links from 1/8 inch aluminum stock. The 1/8 x 1 inch stock is really inexpensive, available at Home Depot, and is easy to drill, bend, and file. Light sanding and polishing can make it look really nice!

Anyway, your car looks great and I am sure it runs terrific. I thought you might like to see what I did to mine. I'd have to polish a lot more than my brackets to make it as nice as yours!!
Good Luck!

Here is a link to a sound file. With the volume up you can hear a rattling noise (like a marble in a can).

Anyone have any idea what it could be. I've done a long handled screwdriver on the valve cover and water pump and hear just the normal sounds. I alos looked over the engine bay for anything that could be rattling.

I think it is related to the carb internals sucking air somehow???

Anyone got any ideas. I barley dented the valve cover for the corner of the adapter to fit. I mean maybe a 3/16 of an inch dimple...would that be a problem?

Here is the link to the video with sound on Youtube.com: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij2UQSdx5RQ

The file is about 6.5 MB.

Looks like you've got a fuel filter zip-tied to your tower brace. Could that be it, either the housing against the brace or the element loose inside?

Sometimes I can find rattles with a rubber mallet, whacking around on things substantial enough to be whacked. If it doesn't change with engine speed, chances are it's just something external that's loose.

I'll go at it with the rubber mallet. Fuel filter is solid...no rattles.

I've been going over the engine and holding things to seeif I can locate the sound.

I swear (I think) it's coming from the carb???

Sound was a vac leak under the carb flange. Fixed it and no problems now. :)

looks like the transdapt adapter from summitracing, about $30 IIRC.

I used the some one, works fine.
