I am interested to hear for anyone who has used one of these units?

What does a ratchet shift feel like?

Does it shift easy or do you have to put a bit of effort into it?

Basically I'm asking;

Would a b & m mega shifter be a pain in the ass to use in a full manual valve body c4 on a daily basis?

And what's a good price for a brand new one?

Thanks.

It's fine. They are cable operated and safe, and can be placed where you want without hitting the handbrake on your TC.

The price is 280 bucks over here.

Pain in the ring! On a daily a ratchet shifter makes reverse parking and multipoint turns something to dread. Been there and won't go again. Effort is not excessive but the routine - squeeze trigger or lift handle, click into reverse, click-click into forward, repeat... Drives you nuts.

Note the US market T-handle shitfers often have their handle moulded the other way. Summit do the RHD at USD$166 plus P&P.

Try a regular C4 T-bar first but tickle up the quadrant gate profiles. If you post a pic, I'll indicate where to file/grind.

Only other notes: With a full manual is the D-2-1 shift pattern's usually reversed to N-1-2-3 and you will wear the whole shifter somewhat with extended use.

Exactly the sort opinion I was after. Something you wont read about on the B & M website.

I thought you pulled up the lever on the megashifter as you would press in the button on the side of the standard shifter. Apparently not.

Im not sure I completely understand how they opperate. Do you reckon you could give me a little tutorial?

DO NOT BUY ONE

Dont by a street/show shifter for a race car go for a pro stick or a pro ratchet

Sounds like you dont like them very much. What is so bad about them?

My car wont be race car for 99% of the time. I want a shifter that is user friendly on the street but still does well at the strip.

Maybe a standard c4 shifter with addos upgrades is the best way to go.

When you give them a hard time the nylon bushes flog out so then they dont change right and they get stuck in gates

Im using a pro stick they're very easy to use, jusy pull back against the lever and it slides right down to 1st

Sounds familiar grief. I never troubleshot it. Swapped for a Hurst Promatic, then swapped the car... The B&M you pulled up on that little 2-finger grip, as described. The Hurst you had to pull the main lever up and push forward. It was less sloppy but still aggravating.

"B&M Pro Stick with cover $305.50" at Rare Spares.

$159.88 at Summit (AUD$215). Be close with postage added.

Pick and chose your comments. It;s great to have testimonials. I have two 'fors' for the B&M, and two 'againsts' for the T-bar

Unique in the world, I have had two next door neigbours, one with a 350 cube/THM 350 63 Chev, and one with a THM 400 454 HQ Holden. Danny and Wayne liked theres, with each of them happy to have there respective SWMBO woman drive it

Oh well, just be aware. The Stock Cortina auto shifter is dangerous (in idle, it can jump out of P or N, and end up in R with comical or diabolical results. It was subject to a lawsuit when used in the American Granada intermediate). I'd certainly take up Addo's offer to have any stock T-bar repofiled on the ratchet because it has been proven dangerous.

I'm going Megashifter because the stock T-bar sucks (my 2.0 TD,and 2.3 TF had it, waste of time because you can over shoot the mark), and there is a 50 dollar conversion kit which allows me to fit the 4-speed auto pattern on it when I've despenses with the little C3 that sits behind my 2.0 Pinto engine in my TE.

Reverse gate pattern is drag race stuff, fellows, not a problem with B&M at all.

My mate used the Cortina T-bar on his 63 Chev and had to mount it backwards so he could fit in the bench seat. Which do you prefer, a cable operated, mount it anywhere shifter able to cop a drag race, or some 66 green dot cast off?

The B&M was far superior. My other neighbour used it on his 454HQ, and loved it.

I agree with you x about the cortina shifter

I must admit the Megashitter is a good "STREET" shifter but they do crap out unlike the the non bushed shifters if you get a little too enthusiastic with them

Hey gassed do you reckon you could eplain to me exactly how this shifter works?

Like if I was cruising in drive (normal 3 speed auto) I stopped and then I wanted to put it into reverse what would I do? (Would you just pull that lever in and then click it up twice?)

Then after reversing I wanted to go foward in drive again? (pull in the lever and click it down two?)

Thanks.

Sorry if its an idiotic question but I just cant get my head around how they work. Especially with that lever.

Reckon those GM-lovers couldn't admit their purchase was a bit average... Goes with the territory. :P

Bought my XP when I couldn't fund a Munro, and never looked back wistfully.
