Ball-pivot rockers OK on Crossflow?

I picked up some 1.72 roller tip rockers for the Crossflow head. They were a steal, so I figured even if they don't work out, I'm not in too deep.

My main concern is that the tips may "walk" off the side of the valve stem and cause problems. As far as I can tell, since they are a ball-pivot design, there is nothing to prevent them from rotating side to side on the fulcrum. With the canted pushrod geometry, I'm even more worried. Is this a valid concern? Should I scrap them and spend the extra $$$ for full roller rockers which won't have this tendency to walk side to side?

If they have the appropriate geometry to work with the head, you should be able to use them with pushrod guideplates.

Crane makes a conversion kit that will fit the head with minimal filing on the pedestal and it gives you a 7/16" stud. About $80 from Summit.

The rockers are Comp Cams 1.72 ratio roller tip rockers for a 351C. I snagged them used at Carlisle for $20 because one of the rocker tips had walked sideways and the edge of the roller was worn, along with the adjacent body of the rocker itself. Otherwise, they appear to be in good shape. I guess I'll only have 3 spares now.

I won't be 100% sure on geometry until I start putting stuff together, but I'm thinking these will be a good match for this setup.

I will definitely check out that kit. I already have a big laundry list for Summit anyway. Thanks for the heads-up!

I think it's Crane whose deluxe timing sets look just like JP/Rollmasters, too.
