Bellhousing for 3.03 trans - alignment dowel pin question

I am gathering parts to upgrade my Roundbody Falcon driveline from the 2.77 trans to the 3.03. I already have a dual bolt pattern block. I bought a bellhousing off e-bay that was supposed to have been from a "6 cyl Mustang". Bellhousing mounting bolts appear to line up with the engine block and the Ford P/N is C7AZ... The block has provisions for 2 alignment dowel pins but the bellhousing only has one (upper) dowel pin bore. There is not any casting material in the area where the lower pin would go - there is even material removed for half of the mounting bolt contact surface (bell to block) for several fasteners. If this description does not make sense, I can get a digi pic of the bell on Sunday. Is this an issue - I always try to get the best possible alignment between engine and trans? Did other years (200/3.03) have both the pin bores on the bellhousing?

One additional question related to the bellhousing: my 2.77/170 (now a 200) used a 3 mtg bolt starter. This bellhousing requires a two mounting bolt starter - did this change start in '67?
