Best and cheapest upgrade for a stock 170

So I have a 66 bronco with a 170
I am thinking of a 200 head swap but anyone have
Any other ideas to get more power out of the old 170

But must be cheap, 3 kid and not a lot of $$$ to work with

Thanks

Also like to keep the 170 just because it is what came in the bronco

the greatest thing about the 170, is that a 200 bolts right in... no mods... even takes the 170 oil pan IIRC.
that alone is worth taking out the 170 for a 200, bigger head and 30 cubes...

Oh and welcome to the site.

DSII
high performance coil
good plug wires

But yeah if you could stand giving up your 170 (mine is still in my garage) a late model 200 is the cheapest best upgrade there is if you find a good used one. The 170 pan and picup tube bolt right on.

.. the swapped low-mileage (Maverick) 170 rebuild in my daily driver '63 wagon simply got a well worked cylinder head "valve job", new stock timing gear/chain set , front balancer Quik-Seal bushing and fresh paint. @ 8 years later it still runs great. Cyl head "valve job" was most costly but with "Handbook" mods' (kudos Schehldal bros.) and a slightly higher compression ratio the 170 does fine for me...

have fun
