I took the D2 and the old Bosch dizzy from the xflow to the machine shop to get the D2 shaft turned down so I can use it. The guy at the shop who has been building race car engines for 30 odd years said that I am nuts to consider using the D2. He was really impressed with the quality if the bosch unit.

My main concern was getting tune up parts (caps and rotors) here in the US. He says anyplace that sells German car parts should have something that should cross. Any idea if any other cars used the same Bosch dizzy?

If you don't run an MSD, the Bosch is a better unit. Have you got the tower cap/adaptor, or the old style cap? They run different rotors, but it all interchanges. The Bosch won't disappoint with performance, but it is much harder to re-curve. I don't sell anything, but that is my take on the situation.

Why not get a couple of spare caps and rotors posted over? I think the caps are about $25 each and the rotors about $8 (Aussie). They last well - say close on 40K in normal usage. The one thing to get spares of with a Bosch, is the module. It is the same across the board and they are about $75 each new. Keep one in the car, with a little tube of silicon-base heat transfer grease.

Regards, Adam.

There's two flavours of dizzy, those with female connectors in the cap and those with male. Coils were opposite too.

I think the male connectors were on the 84/85 XFs, and the earlier ones (XE) had the female (I forget, 'cos mines a mongrel mismatch of the two). The rotors are different also. Modules and basic dizzy are the same.

Other than the connections and rotor I believe they are the same. So just make sure all your parts are consistent with each other, and you'll be right.

Talking of recurving the Bosch dizzy do you know anywhere that does it? I am in Adelaide. Do you take your car in or how do they determine a better advance curve? Is there much power to be gained by doing it(since I've changed cams and modded the motor)?

If you are getting work done on your dissy please ask around for prices first - I have encountered one or two 'rip off merchants' in my travels!
