I need replacement gears for a weber 38/38 carb I bought. The small gear that slides over the throttle connection shaft (main throttle barrel shaft) and the other gear that is a solid peice through the throttle plate (connected to the shaft of the secondary/synchronous throttle barrel).
That description is probably confusing. Basically, the lower section on both of the gears are bent in towards the body of the carb. This is causing the gears to bind and the carb cannot achieve WOT and it cannot return to idle without forcing them manually.
Weber said that these parts are not available. They informed me to get them from a used carb. Any donors out there in the forum? Any possible sources?
I tried bending them back into place. They are made of pot metal? Pretty soft metal. I was kind of successful (i.e. straight again). However, the lower arm on one of the gears is cracked completely through - this is making it "push into" the other gear more, causing the binding. I thought of getting a small file to file down the gear teeth to eleviate the binding, but I fear that I'm just setting myself up for the gear to break completely off in the future. That would suck while driving.
