Does anyone know of an adapter to put an auto trans or maybe a T5 on this engine?? Would like to get rid of the three speed manual.

Thanks

Kevin

In 1964, Ford made a C4 for the 223 (first year for the C4, last year for the 223). By the time the C6 came out (1966), the 223 was out of production. You could also look for a Cruise-o-Matic 3-speed auto (early version of the FMX). They were available almost the entire time the 215/223/262 was in production. If it hasn't sold, there was a 1954 223 and Cruise-o-Matic for sale here in the For Sale section.

OOPS-It's a 2-speed Fordomatic for sale...Sorry!

66, thanks for the info. I have contacted the seller of the 223. Can you point me in the direction of more info for the Cruise-o-matic tranny? I don't know much about it. What models of cars did it come out of?? Did it come in trucks as well? Any additional info would be appreciated.

Kevin

The Cruise-o-Matic was used in fullsize cars and trucks with the 215/223 from about 1952 to 1964. Look for a cast iron case with a removeable bellhousing and 14 pan bolts. They are very strong transmissions, but take a lot of energy to run (they have front AND rear pumps). There are shift kits available for them, but they are hard to find.

Hope this helps!

The early versions of the FMX are the FX and the MX? I have a 67 Galaxie with I believe the FX behind a 289, and the guy I got parts from said it was the Cruise O Matic....It has a front and rear pump and with 180k been bulletproof so far.

Do you have any idea where to Look for this type of Bellhousing?
I am extremely tired of all the knotheads that do not Have the first clue on how to work on Single Range 3 speeds (ford/merc-o-matic) or dual Range 3 speeds (cruise-o-matic). So I need to Upgrade to something better & easier to work on, If & When it needs it.

Thank'ee

good thing about having a rear pump is you can tow start it. you need to get it to about 35mph, then drop it into drive

Try www.ford-y-block.com

John Mummert offers a conversion for C-4 and Borg Warner T-5 for the 292 y-block and if you look in the small print, he offers it for 223's as well.

It's pretty spendy but I should think it's be worth it. Let me know how it goes if you go this way I'm thinking of doing it myself.
