C4 transmission differences?

Someone just told me that a C4 trans behind a V-8 motor will be different from a C4 trans behind an I6 motor. Something about more clutches. I don't really know much about trannys, so I am wondering if the original C4 in my Maverick behind a 250 motor will be stout enough when I do a performance build on the 250. I am looking at having a combination that will run in the 14's so I need advice as to what to do in the tranny dept. Thanks for any help.

8) i doubt you will build enough power from your 250 to hurt the stock C4, but yes there are a few differences between a six cylinder and a V8 C4 trans, while the design is the same between the two, the V8 does have an extra clutch pack or two depending on which clutch you are talking about. when you rebild the C4, or replace it, you can upgrade to the V8 spec C4. the accumulator pistons are also larger on the V8 trannies, and yes you can upgrade to the larger pistons as well. again though i doubt you would hurt the trans unless you are making some serious power.
