cam extraction tips, please.

So I've got the cam about 1/4 of the way out, but I just can't seem to get it past this point. I'm trying to be delicate as I don't want to mar the bearings. Any suggestions on how best to keep it coming out. :?:

This of course does not bode well for putting the new cam in! Sometimes I really miss four cylinder overhead cam engines. those honda swaps used to take two hours total, with valve adjust

You'll notice the cam is notched to clear the crank and rods. rotate the crank and you should get enough clearance to pull it the rest of the way out. Or remove the crank/rods.

Wise guy! I know you like the complicated engine projects, but doing 3/4 of a rebuild for a simple cam swap is a bit much

I'm with you. I'm also looking at having a valve job done, and replacing the cam/lifters. Hope I don't forget the basics in the process.

Funny me: I left the distributor in! Amazing how easy those cams go in and out once that's out of the way.

I think we've ALL done something like that at some point. Good humor! Good luck with the rest of the swap :)

PS Yup, the Major probably likes to take the hard route. He started with a souped up six Mustang, got us all pumped up, and now he has some sort of thing he built with scrap he found on the side of the highway and his travels 'round the world.

See what happens when you bad mouth a Ford, by comparing it to a honda :nono:
