Can you use an EGR to boost fuel octane?

Is there a way to run an EGR system on an old non-EGR engine to allow for raised compression and still run on 87 octane fuel? It would seem to me that re-ingesting preburnt fuel would slow the burn, and isn't that what octane boost does? I would love to go back to 10.7/1 compression on the T-bird and not have to put $5.00/pint octane boost in each tank.

8) what egr does is not slow the burn, but cool the combustion tempratures. and yes you can rig an egr valve system on your tbird. just find a mid to late 70's truck that has the 360 or 390 engine, and grab everything from that, the intake, egr valve and spacer etc. or get an aftermarket intake that has the egr system designed in, and the get an egr spacer and valve for that application.

The EGR does not function at idle, at WOT, or in conditions other than just normal highway cruising, so it wouldn't be very reliable in preventing knock.
