Carb Adapter

OK, I can't figure out something as simple as a carb adapter. I have the HW 5200 from Stovebolt sitting on on of their adapters sitting on top of my hogged out Ford carb adapter.
The adapter from Stovebolt appears to be big hole (1.75) but small bolt pattern.
I need an adapter that is both big hole and larger bolt pattern and I need to get rid of the unsightly Ford adapter so I can have some hood room.

Feedback (with or without jeers) is accepted.

Get rid of the stock water-heated adapter. Stuff the hole in the log with oily rags. Gently taper the top of the opening on the log, to match the gasket. Make sure you don't get metal shavings into the intake if you've got the head mounted. That's my next project, though I want to be ready to pull the head if I miss getting all the shavings out.

If you remove the ford adaptor the stovebolt adaptor will have the carb twisted around a bit. I think this may help you some. http://home.centurytel.net/fordfan/Falc ... ion01.html If you had to you could get a piece of aluminum plate about 1/2" thick then use a 1.75" hole saw to drill out the center, then drill out 2 holes to match the intake and 2 to match the adaptor. This would let you twist the carb back around.

I imagine you could get them out with a magnet as long as you don't get too much in there. Between stuffing oily rags into the log and cleaning up what gets past the rags with a magnetic "pick-up" tool I think you can get everything. Might also be a good idea to remove the pushrods so it will close all the valves and keep anything from getting into the cylinders

Stuff the rags down in there, then fill the hole with shaving cream while you grind. If you're really worried, fill it with grease. Either way it'll catch the metal bits. Just be sure you clean up your mess from inside to outside.

If you're still worried, lean your car over onto the passenger side and shoot a couple cans of carb cleaner into the manifold to flush anything out.
