Heya! The carb i put on runs great, except it bogs down for a sec or so and then takes off. The carb is a stock one from an 1982 ford truck I6 300 from checker. What ways is there to adjust the carb? I am not sure if its getting too much fuel or not, since my engine is stock.

Another question to those who have built up their I6's! I bought a new car and was considering selling my '78 ford fairmont. But was thinking that I need a project car. I have read some peoples buildups and am wondering if they pass emissions???!!! I hate F*(# emissions! Has anybody put in a 300 in their car? Just pondering the possibilities. :)

The easiest way to check for an over rich at accelleration is to have a knowledgeable buddy follow you. Mash the pedal and see if a big puff of black smoke comes out. If it's black then the carb's accel pump is too big; no black smoke the accell circut is OK. If the black smoke occurs later while its accellerating then its the power circuit.

I have had bogs on 2 bbl carbs in my past. It ended up that the inital timing was too low. Make sure the dizzy is properly set; this includes both timing and dwell. A messed up, out of spec dizzy has the same symptoms as a messed up carb. Don't ask me how I know
