Carb choice for 77 200 (from Bronco)

My 61 Ranchero has a 1977 Bronco engine (block and head D7BE) with a Carter YF fitted.
The current carb is leaking and flooding, so decided to swap via Rock Auto, where I found a Carter listed for the 77 Bronco 200.

You can guess that I ended up with a rubik's cube puzzle which I will blame, of course, on the PO.

Left and right pics of the carb attached.

There is a base plate bolted to the log with a port for breather hose back to PCV valve.
The opening on the plate is 1 3/4" dia, studs are approx 2 5/8" apart.
The Carter YF (both the one installed and my replacement) has a smaller 1 7/16" dia opening and stud holes that are just under 3" (2 15/16 ?).
The PO drilled out the holes in the carb base to slots in order to fit the studs on the base plate.

This doesn't seem right to me.

So questions:
1. Is the Carter YF a good choice ?
2. What would be the correct adapter and where would I find one ?
3. Is there a better choice for carb on this engine ?

Thanks for any advice !
Chuck

Hi Chuck,

I didn't read your whole post so should probably not post back - but I gotta run.

"... I found a Carter listed for the 77 Bronco 200..;."
No 200 in a '77. They were in there for 1 or 2 yrs: '73 and may B '74.
So something is miss-identified (could be a swap in too - 40 yr old vehicle).

Back later...

Chad,

You are correct, even in haste !
I had referenced a source that only listed models, not years, so naturally assumed that "B" HAD to be Bronco ;-)

Further research shows that my engine is from a Maverick, a much less desirable heritage (sorry about that, Mav Lovers).

Still can't figure out how I managed to buy a Carter for a 77 Bronco at Rock Auto, though.
Have swapped it for a Maverick carb, which is a slightly different model than the 73-74 Bronco, based on pictures.

Will post what I learn from this puzzle.

right now anything is possible (infact let's swap vehicles, love to have a '62 'chero!) in terms of what it may be...

My suggestion is to get a positive ID on the HEAD. They can B told apart by the stud to stud distance but it's best to look at the casting code. Again as 40 yr old heavy metal museum pieces anything can B up.

Then find out what engine it's fitted on (code is on passenger's side in last half of motor to the left. I used a chip brush dipped into kero to scrub off the grease to be able to see the #s).
Decide if that's the combo U want.
Then gage the carb for the app. (U may want a 2V motocraft/autolite for ur app esp if a 200 ci/3.3 L).

Carter carbs are good to great in my opinion depending on what the vehicle's application are. My vehicle is a work truck (skids logs in the swamps and hills here to the mill). An RBS is what I seek for increased low rev tq).

"...my engine is from a Maverick..."
o0OOPPps, read ur post just now. Ford - can't tell what vehicle it wuz in by engine code - they put same motors in different models same yrs. Anyway, unimportant for your purposes right now.

why do you want another carb?
